Student Spotlights: Celebrating Musical Journeys at Lake Norman Music School
My name is Adam Boxman. I am turning eleven this month and finishing fifth grade at Catawba Springs Elementary School. I live at home with my parents and my twin sister Caroline. I have been playing guitar and taking lessons with Michael Luce at Lake Norman Music School for two and a half years.
I first got interested in guitar because of my cousin Justin. My aunt let me borrow his guitar and showed me a few things to see if I was really interested. I was — and soon after, my parents bought me a black Yamaha electric-acoustic guitar for Christmas when I was in third grade. They signed me up for a trial lesson with Michael, at Lake Norman Music School and I have been taking lessons with him ever since!
Now, I have both my acoustic guitar and a cool black Electric Fender Stratocaster with a sparkly black pickguard. I mostly play on my Fender, but I still like using my acoustic sometimes too.
Michael is an awesome teacher. He has taught me so much about guitar and music in general. He helps me pick songs I want to learn, encourages me to practice, and supports me when I try learning something new on my own. He also pushes me to perform as much as possible. I have played at several Lake Norman Music School recitals, at Lake Norman Brewery with other students from Lake Norman Music School, and in my elementary schools, talent show every year since third grade.
Michael also helped me write my own song and gave me advice on how to make it sound better, which helped me learn more about songwriting. He always shows interest in what I am doing with guitar and even in my life outside of music.
In the future, I would love to be in a band like Michael. I really enjoy rock, heavy metal, and punk rock. Bands like Metallica and Pantera have awesome guitar solos and I want to be able to play those long hard songs without looking at sheet music. I am working toward that goal and improving every day. I also like artists like Kid Rock and Green Day. Even if I do not end up in a band, I always want to have music in my life — even teach my future kids how to play guitar someday.
Outside of school and guitar, you can usually find me at the BMX track. I am a self-proclaimed “bike nerd,” and racing BMX is one of my favorite things. My twin sister and I both race and play guitar, and we are lucky our parents support us so much in the things we do. Besides biking and guitar, I love camping with my family, especially in Destin, Florida and I love swimming in our pool in the summer.

Katie Needles — Our versatile new instructor for both Piano & Vocals. Katie is eager to share her passion and expertise, guiding students who want to master the keys or find their voice.
Matt Carl — Our excellent new Guitar instructor. Matt brings his enthusiasm and skill to help aspiring guitarists of all levels unlock their potential and strum their way to success.
